Before (55lbs) Vs. After (63lbs) Peppermint Mocha has been through so much 💔 She came in completely emaciated, terrified, confused, all alone in the world. She has spent her years traveling from home to home, then to a shelter, where things are loud, chaotic & fast-paced. We have been working so much with her, helping her trust again, teaching her what unconditional love is ~ and now, Peppermint is thriving more than ever in her foster home. This girl has a high prey drive & does not like other dogs - she would need to be the only animal in her home. She would not be able to live with young kiddos; older, dog savvy teens. We know these placements can be hard to find, but Peppermint has some specific needs. Can you blame someone who has been through so much trauma? She is an avid cheese lover, tummy-rub addict & can keep up with you on the walking trail. When she first got into her foster home, it took her the usual 3 days to settle in. She has been working so hard & so patiently with her foster mom, teaching us that with any dog, transformations can blossom with TLC 🖤 Peppermint Mocha will be back at the shelter while her foster mom goes on a well-deserved vacation. Next Week is National Volunteer Appreciation Week! This past weekend we hosted our annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner, to honor the wonderful team of volunteers we have here at The Manchester Animal Shelter🎈 It truly takes a special person to donate their undevoted time to the homeless animals of our city. Often coming in frightened, confused & their whole world turned upside down, our animals lives have changed in the blink of an eye. These amazing people are the constant that the animals have grow to love, appreciate & depend on. The pets of FMAS look forward to spending their time with the volunteers & we know that works both ways 💗 A HUGE thank you to Josh Burpee @djjoshburpee for volunteering his time to be a part of this meaningful event. Imagine everything you've ever known changing overnight, and then for the next 125 days you are wondering if someone is coming around to save you... this is Baja Blast's reality 💔 Baja Blast is a young man, just 1 year & 3 months old. He has come SUCH a long way with us over these 125 days, proving to us that he is smart, patient, capable & loving. He LOVES other dogs, and would love to live with another dog in his home. Tina was a beloved housecat for 6 years before she came back to the shelter. She was originally adopted from us as a kitten & we know that in her home she was a love bug. She would let her former owners rub her tummy, cuddle with her on the couch & let her rule her roost, as she should 💅The reason she came back to us is because she wasn't fond of the children in the home, the loud noises, the changes, so Tina would prefer an adult only household as the only pet. You may of seen our earlier post about Duchess, the Light Fury lookalike from “How to Train your Dragon” well ~ here we have Mr. Cooper who is ACTUALLY a feline version of Toothless, the Night Fury 🐉 • highly intelligent, can understand human speech, mimic behaviors (literally, he will talk to you) & are *generally* solitary ~ however, Cooper is a co-dependent man, he LOVES his humans! • he's among the fastest dragons, known for diving at high speeds and using their dark scales to blend into the night sky (Cooper's scales are the softest you will ever feel!) • Weaknesses: terrified of eels 🐍 • Much like Toothless, Cooper is the last known of his kind, emerging from the Hidden World (he was found as a stray outside) Cooper the Night Fury would like to be the only pet in his home. Jumanji is a 4-year-old boy who is equal parts lovable companion & feline explorer. Just like the game he’s named after, life with Jumanji can be unpredictable—but also incredibly rewarding for the right person! Jumanji absolutely loves being around people. He enjoys hanging out nearby, flopping down next to you for pets & soaking up attention while you brush him. He’s affectionate, loves human company & wants to be part of whatever you’re doing. He's done well living with other cats after the typical “getting to know you” period, so a home with feline friends could be a great fit for him. Now, about that adventurous side… Jumanji can get a little overstimulated and has some quirky habits that his future family will need to be mindful of. He loves weaving around your feet while you’re walking—especially on stairs—and sometimes rolls onto the steps to grab your attention (and occasionally your shoelaces) with his paws. Because of this, his adopter will need to move carefully around him & help redirect him when he gets a little too enthusiastic. He also prefers to keep all four paws on the ground, so being picked up is not on his bingo card! Jumanji will do best with a patient, cat-savvy adopter who understands cat body language and can appreciate his big personality while helping him manage his excitement. In return, you’ll get a loyal little shadow who loves being near his people and soaking up affection. He will help you navigate all of life's hurdles. Cooper is an almost 5 year old opera singer who likes to belt the songs of his ancestors. His bloodline has been singing for ages! He is the MOST vocal cat we have at the moment, always chirping, chittering, singing & is seeking someone who encourages his vocal stims. He was originally brought in to us as a stray, and has been adopted out & returned twice since then. He would likely do best with an owner who is a fellow home-body, works from home, and has no other pets or children. In summary, he needs a fellow introvert who will give him all of the pets, snacks, and rap battles he asks for. (it may be a tall ask, but it's what Cooper needs!) Baja Blast is available for adoption! He is loving all of the extra time he is spending with his friends lately. Field trips to the park, play dates with his friend Lenny, going to the beach & Dunkin Donuts of course 👑 Baja is a young man with a long life ahead of him. He is only 1 year & about 4 months old, and the shelter is no place for a pup that young. He is full of energy, humor, personality, and he is slowly getting chunkier while needing to live in his crate here at the shelter. He is now 67lbs & would love an owner who can get him moving outside! He enjoys long walks on the beach, hikes in the woods, scavenger hunts in the house, and could potentially learn to love the water come summer time (currently, he tip-toes around the waters edge - staying vigilant 🤨) Baja is working so hard on his manners. He does have Chronic Kidney Disease, which we are currently managing with a special prescription diet. He will need to stay on this diet in his furr-ever home. Cooper would do best in a home with no young children, no dogs & no cats. He needs an owner who will let him be himself, loud & proud, singing the songs of his people. He's a social butterly with our staff and volunteers, and he knows it. He loves his out of cage time, we can only imagine the zoomies he would have in a household setting! Apply for Cooper! Would someone come & give our FIV+ kitties some love? 😿 Meek Mill & Crayon (bonded pair) reside in our Cat Community Room alongside their handsome companion, Smokey. All of these boys are positive for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) which makes it a bit harder for them to get adopted. A lot of people have misconceptions about FIV. It is not contagious like a viral infection, humans cannot catch it, and it does not mean they are doomed to live an unhealthy life. It essentially means that they are more susceptible to infections & illnesses, because FIV is a slow-acting virus that weakens a cat's immune system. As long as they live indoors, receive routine annual vet care & are showered with love, these boys can live just as long, and happily, as any other cat. Meek Mill & Crayon would love to find their home together. They are 2 of our longer stay-cats at the moment, and have really been coming out of their shells as of late. Imagine this.... You are going about your day, knowing your daily routine, the environment around you & you are waiting for your next snuggle with the person you love most. Then suddenly, everything changes and you can no longer see your person every day, they think you are better off elsewhere. You quickly realize that you are alone, confused & broken. You go to a safe place where the new people around you all look concerned. They are worried for you. "Why are they looking at me like that? Did I do something wrong?" You then learn that these new people only want to shower you with love, affection, and most importantly... FOOD! You find that you are very much underweight & your new friends don't know much about your past, but are doing everything they can to make you better. You understand that they have kind hearts, soft eyes & a gentle touch. ❤ But then, you look around you & see other dogs live here. The spaces are small, there are a lot of smells, this is nothing like the life you knew. You miss your person, you miss the feel of a soft rug, of a comfy couch, you miss being able to relax. Over time, you are blessed to get into a foster home. You start to become yourself again! Learning to trust, to heal, to grow & most important, you are being a patient girl, waiting for another chance. This is Peppermint's Story. Is there anything cuter than a momma taking care of her kitten? 🥹 Monet is a 2 year old mom who is so thankful to have her little Van Gogh by her side. Baja Blast is just a young man who is learning how to grow into his own! He is 1 year & 2 months old, 54lbs of muscle & as handsome as ever. He went on an adventure yesterday with his good friend, Miko! "Baja Blast was such a good boy on his short walk off-site. He got to see some deer pretty close up, ran around for a little, and then sat in the sun for a while and took in all the smells. I love him" Baja Blast LOVES other dogs! He has had a few dog-to-dog introductions here at the shelter & done very well. We think he could do well in a home with another confident, dog savvy dog that can show Baja what the Canine Club is all about. 🐕(Though Baja loves dogs, he has shown us he does not love cats & would like to live without them) Baja is a man with many quirks. Meet Cashe! (pronounced "cash") Cashe is an 8-year-old sweetheart who's been patiently waiting for her second chance for over 283 days. 😥 She is currently our longest residential animal in the shelter. She first arrived here last summer & has spent the past several months working through a number of medical concerns. Through it all, Cashe has remained a gentle, loving girl who just wants a cozy place to call home! Cashe was recently diagnosed with Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy, a heart condition that she now takes two medications for. She has also been treated for a chronic ear infection, had dental work completed & previously saw an ophthalmologist for a squinty eye caused by a flare-up of feline herpes brought on by the stress of shelter life. (We calculated the cost of her current meds from Chewy: Atenolol 25mg- $3.90 for 60 day supply & Clopidogrel 75mg- $18 for 240 day supply) While that may sound like a lot, Cashe has been doing wonderfully in her foster home over the past few months and is feeling much more like herself. Sadie loves to play dress up! She is the sweetest girl & great for close handling. We had a play date the other day & Sadie loved every moment. She posed for pictures with her mini cowboy, did enrichment puzzles, got a cream cheese treat, belly rubs & even tucked herself in for a nap in her crate. Sadie would be an amazing companion. She's a GSD so she does often have a lot to say; that's just in her nature! The thing she loves most is going on walks where she can work her brain & stretch her legs. She loves puzzles involving food. She loves to do tricks & commands for her people. She's house broken, crate trained, could do well with cats & could even do well with older children/teens in the home. 182 days with us, and she is making great strides. As a dog selective girl, Sadie says it's up to her if she wants to be friends with another dog or not. But this lady is just over 2 years old. The photo on the right was taken today, 2/27/26 when she came in from a visit from her foster home. Just look at that difference. Peppermint Mocha was brought in to us after being left behind by her previous owner. She was emaciated (very underweight), needing to go on a special diet regimen immediately. It was apparent that she had multiple litters in the past, and with her being so young; we know she was over that lifestyle. It was back to square one for this girl. Slowly but surely, we were going to get her healthy again! The shelter life has been stressful for her. She had a complicated spay, suffered from tipped ears & had a serious case of the doggy blues. Adoption Update on Scoville 💌 We love seeing the animals come out of their shells once they've been adopted into a home 🥹 watching them learn to love their new lives is something that will never get old! "She's doing great! I'm calling her "Sooty" . . . She's still in the guest room because she's learning to eat from her chip-operated feeder, but she's on Level IV (of 4) and will soon graduate! We've been doing bedding swaps, and I spend time in there with her, knitting—she's a jumpity little girl but then settles into my lap for a good snuggle. I'd take photos of that but black cat against black pants, not very effective! She chirps her little meows to me; she's a very chatty little girl! Katniss's birthday is coming up... 🎂 on Monday March 2nd. She will turn 4 years young, and for her, most of the day being spent in her cage. It's been almost 200 days that Tina has lived in our shelter... for the 3rd time. 🥺 Yes, our sweet girl Tina originally came to us back in 2019 as a stray. She was adopted rather quickly after her original intake with us; however she was returned shortly after. A few months later, hope glistened again! Tina had been adopted for the 2nd time. She lived in her home for 5 years before she found herself back here with us. She was experiencing some issues in her previous home which could have been equated to some underlying health issues. Tina is now diagnosed with Early Kidney Disease; and is on a special prescription diet that she will need to stick to. Tina has had a rough hand dealt to her. She is just your average spicy tiger lady who wants a home to call her own. She is looking for an adult only home where she can be a confident, independent lady; specifically the only cat in the home. "When I took Papucho out last weekend, he was the best boy and we had so much fun. He was so chill the whole time in the car. Sadie has spent 3/4 of our seasons with us... Summer... Fall... Now Winter... 161 days. She has been waiting for her forever home since August 2025. She is about 4 1/2 years old (4 years and 5 months) & weighs 61lbs. She is a German Shepherd, Labrador Retriever mix. Sadie Is housetrained & crate trained. She is a good girl in her crate and doesn't make a mess. She will ask to go outside, and often keeps her kennel fresh & clean. As a GSD she has a lot to say; she can be reactive to other dogs in a shelter sitting; but has done well living with specific dogs in the past. Aka; she is dog selective. She would do well with older, dog savvy teenagers, and no cats or small animals. To describe Sadie in three words: Smart, Silly & Active! Her favorite things to do are go for rides in the car, doing puzzles, doing training & agility, working her brain & going on runs with our volunteers. She has been getting more time out of her kennel which she is thoroughly enjoying. We would love to find a foster home for her, or better yet, an adopter, before the kennels start getting re-done. Happy 2nd Birthday, Nova! 😍 Today is Nova's 2nd birthday. She is now officially 2 years young. She has been with us since last July, after being found tied up in a park, all alone, in the blazing heat. She has come such a long way since her intake ~ she can really trust her people now. Nova has a behavior plan that needs to be continued once she is adopted (this is very important for Nova) While we LOVE Nova and love having her here with us; no dog wants to turn another year older in a shelter. "Okay ladies & gents... I am looking for my human love this Valentines Day. As you know, my name is Papucho. Did you know that "Papucho" is a Spanish term of endearment meaning "Handsome"?! One of our staff members had the afternoon off the other day & did the sweetest thing, they took Sadie on an adventure of a lifetime. Miles said, "I took Sadie on a little outing since she's been so cooped up this winter. I took her to an indoor private dog park in concord first. She didn't really know what to think of it but she got some nice off leash time to run around. I took her on a nice short cool down trail walk after where she got some good sniffs (including a carcass of some kind)" She even got a Pup Cup on her way back! Shout out to places like "No Monkey Business Dog Training Fun Spot" (located in Concord) for offering great opportunities such as this for dogs to have their own confined safe space. Sadie is an incredibly smart dog who just wants to see the sights and sniff all of the smells. She still plays like a kitten, and falls in love with people on her own terms. She has been with us now her 3rd time, after her 2 previous homes were not the best match for her. It is important to Tina that her next adopter is her last, because she is tired of this game! All she wants is someone to give her a luxurious living room to bask in the sun. Due to the reserved sass we had mentioned, she needs an adult only home with no other cats. She is on a special diet that she will need to stay on to keep her in her best health.
