Volunteer Requirements
To ensure the safety of both volunteers and animals, there are a few basic requirements:
- Volunteers must be 18 years or older to work directly with animals.
- Individuals 16–17 years old may volunteer inside the shelter building in approved roles.
Additional guidance and training are provided so volunteers understand the shelter’s animal care protocols and expectations.
What to Expect After You Apply
Once you submit the volunteer application, the shelter team reviews your information and provides guidance on next steps. Volunteers may receive orientation information and details about current opportunities depending on shelter needs.
Training and support are provided so volunteers can safely participate in shelter activities and contribute effectively.
Volunteer FAQ
What is the time commitment?
We ask that volunteers commit to a once-a-week shift. We understand that things may come up and that’s ok! If you need to miss a shift, please let us know in advance.
When are the volunteer shifts?
Our animal care shifts (dog, cat, and small animal care) are from 8-10am and 4-7pm (pm shift timing is flexible). We also have general shelter shifts (organizing, gardening, and more!) that are flexible throughout the day!
What do I wear when volunteering?
You should wear long pants and comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty. We require that you wear close toed shoes.
Do I need experience with animals?
No, you will be trained to care for the animals.
